Modern Lumbopelvic Management

Course Description:

This 4-hr course is designed for direct access physical therapists, and other Rehab Based Clinicians, MDs, PAs or similar professionals that routinely evaluate and treat low back pain. Low back pain is often seen as complex and difficult to treat. While most of it is non-specific, it is not reflected in complex palpation and anatomically-based examinations and treatments. In this course, participants will learn a simple Repeated Movements based screen, how to immediately apply the results of the screen to a Recovery Plan to empower patients to self assess and self treat. 

Prior to the live course, participants will be provided with a 1-hr self-paced recording which will review pertinent Pain Science Education concepts of the lumbar spine, when radiology matters, and patient education concepts. The 3 hour live course will review the Movement Screening, Repeated Motions Examination, and practice of Repeated End Range Loading Resets. 

Please note, there is a hands-on component to this course! We would like to ask each participant to have a family member or friend (bonus points if they actually have low back/hip pain) present during the course to practice various techniques with. We understand that this may not be possible and have an alternative plan in place for those that are not able to recruit an extra "body". Laptops/camera set-up should be in a space where we can see you working with your "patient" (treatment table is great if available, if not, floor mat works just fine!).

Course Objectives:

At the conclusion of the course, participants will demonstrate competency in the following objectives:

• Understand the need for patient education on pathoanatomy and pain science for the lumbar spine
• Use a Repeated Motion Exam and Movement Screen for the Lumbar Spine
• Use Repeated End Range Loading Resets to Empower the Patient with Self Treatment Strategies
• Make a Recovery Plan (Home Exercise Program) for General Lumbar Conditions

Course Schedule:

Self Paced Prior to Live Course (1hr): Basics of Pain Science and Patient Education

     (Participants will receive a recording 2 weeks prior to live course.)

Live Course:

9-9:30: Introduction, Meet the instructor, Review of course objectives

9:30 - 10:30 Repeated Motion Exam and End Range Loading Resets

10:30 - 11:30 Designing the Recovery Plan

11:30 - 12:00 Review and Q&A with the Instructor

Competency Demonstration:  In order to receive continuing education credit, each participant must achieve 70% in a quiz provided via Flexiquiz after the course. If the student fails to achieve 70 points throughout the course, they will be asked to complete additional assignments until remediation is achieved. Once the student achieves this score and completes the course evaluation, they will be e-mailed an official course certificate.
