Alcohol, The Buzz Killer

This course, led by Joe Boone, MS, CSCS, CISSN, was designed to educate healthcare and fitness professionals on the deeper consequences of (chronic) alcohol consumption. The course reviews the history of alcohol then explores the physiology of alcohol absorption, processing and elimination. This course also discusses and compares the calories that we get from alcohol and educates participants in how to read the label of an alcoholic beverage. Participants will leave the course with a greater understanding of the physiological impacts of alcohol related to health and function.

Objectives:

1. Understand and be able to discuss the biological origins of alcohol
2. Understand the history and current state of human consumption of alcohol
3. Understand and be able to discuss how the human body absorbs and processes alcohol
4. Understand and be able to explain the physiological consequences of alcohol consumption
5. Understand and be able to explain how to read the label of an alcoholic beverage.
